This is where Chelsea’s plan fell apart : BBC Pundit

Chelsea lost their defensive shape and were ‘very very spread’ after Andreas Christensen had to replace an injured Antonio Rudiger according to Michael Brown.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast, the former Premier League midfielder said :

“Rudiger going off was possibly key to that defensive shape when you setup from Sarri,

“Why do you play Hazard as that number nine again? You’ve got [Gonzalo] Higuain and [Olivier] Giroud, could you be more offensive?

“So the plan’s in place, you lose your central defender, Christensen comes on, over-covers, and you see that’s where they’re very, very spread the Chelsea defence, and obviously Liverpool were really, really positive from then on.

“Once they scored the goal, well Mo Salah thinks ‘well I’ll come in and I’ll try my luck’.”He added: “It was a great reaction from Chelsea.

“They obviously tried to make it happen, Hazard hitting the post as we mentioned.

“But it was so comfortable towards the end.”
