Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri reveals real reason Gonzalo Higuain missed Dynamo Kiev win

CHELSEA striker Gonzalo Higuain should be available for tomorrow’s Premier League clash against Everton.

Higuain, 31, missed the Europa League destruction of Dynamo Kiev due to illness but should have recovered in time for the trip to Goodison Park.

Olivier Giroud filled the void and bagged a hat-trick in the 5-0 win in the second leg of their last-16 tie.

When asked if Higuain will recover for the Everton fixture, Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri said: “I think so he had a stomach ache and a fever.

“But no injury so I think and I hope he will be available.”

Sarri, who appears to have no fresh selection issues, is expected to restore the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Jorginho, and Eden Hazard to his starting line-up against Everton.

Meanwhile, Giroud has admitted he is eager to win back his regular spot in the Chelsea team.

The World Cup winner has found himself on the substitutes bench since Higuain arrived on loan from Juventus in January.

Speaking after his hat-trick against Dynamo Kiev, Giroud said: “I’m a competitor and I want to play every single game and to be happy on the pitch.

“I have been through a lot of tough moments in my career.

“I just want to enjoy playing my football after winning the World Cup last summer. I want to take maximum pleasure on the pitch. That’s why when I play I try to enjoy the game as much as I can.

“I am not picking the team, the manager makes some choices.

“I play in the Europa League and I am happy to help the team to go through the stages step by step.

“The target is clearly to win it. The Premier League is another thing.

“I’m 32 but I’m still young. I feel very well physically. When I do the tests on the treadmill I have to say I have one of the best tests [at the club]. Physically I feel very good.”
