Chelsea travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Man City manager Pep Guardiola has hailed Gonzalo Higuain ahead of Chelsea’s trip to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Maurizio Sarri had wanted to sign the experienced striker in the summer from Juventus but in the end he had to wait until last month to finally get his man.
Although the 31-year-old failed to hit the back of the net in Chelsea’s games against Sheffield Wednesday and Bournemouth, Higuain managed to get off the mark for the Blues last Saturday with two excellent goals against Huddersfield Town.
His first came after a brilliant bit of movement saw N’Golo Kante play him in, with his second after the break a thunderous drive from outside the area.
With City now back at the top of the table ahead of Sunday’s encounter at the Etihad, Guardiola knows very well that the Argentine can punish them given the chance.
“He is a guy who doesn’t need too much to score goals, incredible experience playing in Napoli, he’s exceptional striker,” he said at his press conference, as reported by Manchester Evening News.
Sarri also spoke about the striker as he faced the press at Cobham ahead of the game.
With Higuain linking up well with Eden Hazard last Saturday, the manager believes that his new frontman will be very good for the Belgian international between now and the end of the season.
“I think Gonzalo is a great player,” said Sarri. “He did very well everywhere. In Madrid, in Naples, in Milan. Maybe not very well in Milan, but he’s a great player and I think he’s very useful for Eden.
“They are really very suitable to play together, I think. It’s very important for us he’s determinate.
“I think the impact with other players we really very good for us.”
