CHELSEA have sent Michy Batshuayi on loan to Crystal Palace – and the striker could outscore Gonzalo Higuain this season.
That’s the worrying prediction made by Blues hero Pat Nevin.
Higuain has joined Chelsea on loan until the end of the season and he opened his account for the Blues yesterday with a brace against Huddersfield.
But Maurizio Sarri’s side have struggled for regular goals this season and won’t find it so easy against more accomplished sides.
Batshuayi made his debut yesterday, playing the final 10 minutes of Palace’s win over Fulham after sealing a deadline day switch.
The Belgian was instrumental in his new side’s second goal, forcing Sergio Rico into a save that Jeffrey Schlupp followed up to seal the victory.
And Nevin has backed Batshuayi to open his account sooner rather than later and outscore Chelsea frontment Higuain and Olivier Giroud.
“Michy Batshuayi is a fantastic goalscorer,” he told BBC Sport.
“I am not sure about his overall play but he could end up scoring more goals than any Chelsea striker this season.”
Batshuayi spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Valencia but he struggled to make an impact and was sent to Selhurst Park.
He’ll likely be handed a start next weekend against West Ham, who were interested in signing him before Palace swooped.
And he’s vowed to show Eagles fans his best form as he looks to guide them away from relegation danger.
“I’m going to bring as much as I can to help the team win and get some game time to be at my best,” he said.
“(The win over Fulham was) very important. It’s good for the team and for me.
“I feel good but I need to train with the team so to have the whole team together will be something that’s good.
“I spent one day (with them) before training and with the coach.”
Palace will be hoping Batshuayi is in form when they welcome West Ham to Selhurst Park next Saturday.
