Michael Owen sends Chelsea message to Callum Hudson-Odoi

Michael Owen has admitted that he cannot understand why Callum Hudson-Odoi would want to leave Chelsea FC for Bayern Munich.

The teenager’s future at Chelsea FC has been a constant source of speculation in recent weeks after Bayern Munich reportedly had multiple bids turned down for the 18-year-old.

It would seem that Hudson-Odoi is keen to leave Chelsea FC and fight for a spot at Bayern Munich following his lack of playing time at Stamford Bridge under Maurizio Sarri this season.

Hudson-Odoi has only made three appearances in the Premier League this season and all of them have been from the bench.

The England Under-19 international was sat in the stands as Chelsea FC lost 4-0 to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday night.

However, he has featured six times in the cup competitions, scoring two goals and making one assist for Sarri’s side.

It seems clear that Hudson-Odoi is angling for a move away from Chelsea FC in search of some more regular playing time.

But former Liverpool FC striker Owen is not convinced that would be a good idea for the Chelsea FC youngster.

Speaking in an interview quoted by the Daily Express, Owen said: “The strange one in this situation is how anybody thinks that a player can leave Chelsea and go to a team like Bayern Munich and then be guaranteed to play even more.

“It’s Bayern Munich for crying out loud. It’s not a weak team on the continent. We’re talking Bayern Munich.

“I’m not sure anybody has ever been given absolute assurances that they’re going to play X amount of games when they’ve been signed. I can’t understand why everyone assumes you would go to Bayern Munich and be guaranteed to play more than you would at Chelsea.

“We are talking another level up and one of the top five clubs in the world. Have a look at Bayern’s team. It’s not bad and it’s not going to be easy to penetrate into that.

“I admire anybody that is doing it for the right reasons, but he is only 18 and is integrating into the first team. I don’t think Chelsea are doing a bad job in blooding a talented youngster.”

Chelsea FC were hammered 4-0 by Bournemouth on Wednesday night as they suffered a blow to their hopes of finishing in the top four and dropped down into fifth place in the table.
