Chelsea transfer news: Sky Sports man reveals exciting new signing news – they are ‘close’

SKY SPORTS reporter Kaveh Solhekol says Chelsea are ‘pretty close’ on deals for ‘one or two’ new signings.

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas yesterday joined Ligue 1 side Monaco, managed by his former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry, on a three-and-a-half year deal.

Fabregas, 31, captained the Blues in the FA Cup against Nottingham Forest on Saturday – then broke down in tears as he waved goodbye.

The original plan was for Chelsea to only let Fabregas go when replacements have been found. That hasn’t been the case but Solhekol thinks fresh blood is on its way.

“Maurizio Sarri basically made it clear Fabregas was not going to play for Chelsea again,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News.

“He said mentally, he’d already left and his mind was already in the south of France. I think it just made sense for Chelsea to do the deal now.

“I think they are pretty close to one or two deals for replacement midfielders anyway.

“This will speed up getting those deals across the line.

“As far as Fabregas himself is concerned, it’s a great move for him.

“Chelsea have this policy when you’re over 30, they only give you a one-year deal.

“He’s going to Monaco, on a three-and-a-half year contract and living in the south of France, and also Chelsea will be saving a lot of money on wages they pay him.

“It makes sense for everybody – a happy ending for Cesc Fabregas and Chelsea.”

Fabregas described the move as “a new project” and a “great honour”.

He added: “I’m here to help the team, I’m looking forward to starting. I am very excited.”
