CHELSEA are in the process of signing two midfielders, according to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett.
Stamford Bridge bosses are on the hunt for reinforcements to allow Cesc Fabregas to complete a move to Monaco.
Fabregas has agreed to join the Ligue 1 outfit but a replacement is wanted before that transfer can go through.
Cagliari’s Nicolo Barella and Zenit St Petersburg’s Leandro Paredes are the club’s top targets.
Dorsett claims Chelsea are close to striking a deal for Italy international Barella while talks are progressing for Argentina international Paredes.
“So who are the potential replacements for Chelsea?” Dorsett said on Sky Sports News.
“Well this could be one of them. Chelsea want Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella we’ve been told today, and a deal is close.
“He could cost as much as £45m but Sarri is a big fan.
“And Barella might not be the only midfielder incoming at the Bridge.
“We’ve also been told today the Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Leandro Paredes is on their list and negotiations are well underway.
“Sources have told us that at least one of Paredes and Barella is expected to be confirmed as a Chelsea player later this week.”
Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri reckons it is time Fabregas – behind Jorginho in the pecking order – left the club to get regular first-team action.
“I can say only my opinion,” Sarri said at a press conference on Monday.
“I don’t know the decision of the club. In my opinion, he needs to go.
“You know very well in this club there is a rule – the renewal of players over 30 is usually for one year.
“He has an offer for two years. I don’t want a very important player as Cesc not happy.”
Meanwhile, Kasey Palmer is undergoing a medical ahead of a loan move to Bristol City.
Dorsett said: “So much transfer news concerning Chelsea, we’ve had to spread it out across the whole hour.
“Let’s head back to Stamford Bridge and tell you about Kasey Palmer.
“This is a potential outgoing for Chelsea.
“He’s having a medical this afternoon ahead of a loan move to Bristol City.
“Palmer gained promotion to the Premier League with Huddersfield in 2017.
“He’s been on loan at Blackburn Rovers this season but he’s only started 10 of Rovers’ 26 league matches.”
