N’Golo Kante speaks out on Maurizio Sarri changing his position at Chelsea

N’Golo Kante insists he is enjoying his new role at Chelsea under Maurizio Sarri. Kante is rated as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world and has played huge roles in two Premier League title triumphs and a World Cup victory. But Sarri has said the 27-year-old is unable to perform the role in his system, preferring instead to play Jorginho in front of the defence.

Kante has therefore played in a more advanced role this term in a tactical move that has been widely criticised by former players and pundits. But speaking after the 2-0 victory over Fulham, Kante told Chelsea’s official website: ‘I like this position. ‘The manager has given me the confidence to play this position since the beginning of the season.

‘I am trying to do my best and I will get better at it, and I hope to have success in it this year.’ Kante dispossessed Jean Michael Seri in the build-up to Pedro’s early opener against Fulham. And the French World Cup-winner added: ‘It was the order from the manager to press them. ‘I saw there was an opportunity to press, I took the ball and passed to Pedro who used great skill and hit a good shot.’

The Blues were far from at their best against relegation-battlers Fulham but Ruben Loftus-Cheek wrapped up the victory with a second-half goal. ‘The feeling is that it was not an easy match,’ Kante said. ‘Fulham are returning to form and it was sometimes complicated, but scoring quickly was important. ‘They had a couple of chances, but we were able to score again and make the end of the match easier. We deserved to win.’
