Chelsea star urged to consider leaving club after Fulham victory

Ruben Loftus-Cheek will ‘really’ have to think about leaving Chelsea next summer unless he is given a more prominent role in the team.

That is the opinion of Premier League legend Alan Shearer, who says Loftus-Cheek is too talented to only be a fringe player.

England international Loftus-Cheek scored his fifth goal of the season as Chelsea beat Fulham 2-0 on Sunday.

But he is yet to start a Premier League fixture under Blues boss Maurizio Sarri, playing back-up to the likes of Mateo Kovacic and Ross Barkley.

‘Ruben will have a big decision to make at the end of the season,’ Shearer said in a column for The Sun.

‘He scored against Fulham – just like he did the last time he played in the Premier League against Burnley back in October.

‘But despite doing very well every time he does play, he is just not getting enough game time.

‘Loftus-Cheek had a good time on loan at Crystal Palace last season and then went to the World Cup with England.

‘I understood his decision to come back and give it a go at Chelsea because a new manager had taken over.

‘But he will have to wait and see if he plays more between now and the end of the season, otherwise, he will really have to consider his future in the summer.’

Chelsea were far from at their best against relegation-battlers Fulham but secured the victory through goals from Loftus-Cheek and Pedro.

N’Golo Kante’s position for the Blues this season has drawn controversy and Sarri said the midfielder still needed to improve after the win.

The Italian said: ‘I think he played very well, he defended very well.

‘He needs to improve a little more from the tactical point of view, but that is natural. Last season he played with two or three midfielders but in central, so he needs to improve (tactically).

‘Today was better, because when the ball was on the other side of the pitch it was better. He has to stay very close to Jorginho, otherwise it is a problem.’
