Alvaro Morata scored two goals at the weekend against Crystal Palace, and it could have been more.
The forward was twice played through on goal in the latter stages, but couldn’t complete the hattrick.
Maurizio Sarri left him on for the full game, despite the fact that he’s played a huge amount in recent weeks.
That might seem odd given the issues Morata had last season with chronic back pain, but it’s all playing in to the strategy Sarri is using to get the best out of Morata.
It’s not a question of what Morata is doing on the pitch – as that is still not very well set up for his strengths under Sarri – it’s a question of how much time Morata has on it.
The forward was constantly losing his place last season, and living on no confidence in the fear he would be dropped the next week.
Thanks for the injury to Olivier Giroud, the former Real Madrid man has now had a long spell in the team, and the goals are starting to flow again.
