The incredible stat that reveals the unlikely Chelsea star who is proving key to Sarri-ball

Since arriving last summer Antonio Rudiger has impressed many at Chelsea and has become something of a fans’ favourite around Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old’s combative style, reading of the game, strength and speed has gone down really well with supporters and since Maurizio Sarri came into the club in the summer he has also become a key member of the starting XI.

The Germany international has started every Premier League game for the Italian this season and has formed a partnership with David Luiz that has also seen the Blues keep five clean sheets from their opening ten matches of the campaign.

However, there is one stat now that Rudiger has overtaken his Brazilian centre-back partner and proved that he has become an even more valuable member of Sarri’s side.

While Jorginho is still the pass master of the side with 1029 to his name in the Premier League, Rudiger has overtaken Luiz with the second most passes for the Blues with 800, with Luiz having 760.

That makes Rudiger number three on the list in the league behind Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte (874), with Luiz number four.

Bringing the ball out from the back is a crucial part of Sarri’s style of play for the Blues, controlling the game and making sure that the Blues are playing inside the opposition’s half.
