Referee announced for Chelsea vs Everton – and it’s fantastic news for Sarri and the Blues

Kevin Friend will be the man in the middle when Chelsea face Everton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Two points behind Man City in the Premier League table after 11 games, Maurizio Sarri’s side can temporarily go top with victory over the Toffees.

In fact, they could remain top going into the international break if Pep Guardiola’s team lose against rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.

Although the Blues are in top form at present following Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace, Everton, who have an appalling record at Stamford Bridge, will travel to west London in confident mood after winning four of their last five games in the league.

As impressive as their run of 12 wins, seven draws and five defeats is when Friend is referee, the Toffees have a dreadful record on the road when the 47-year-old is in charge.

Falling to an appalling 4-1 defeat at Southampton in November 2017 when Friend last refereed them, you have to go back to May 2015 for their last victory away from home.

Apart from the late win over West Ham at Upton Park courtesy of Romelu Lukaku’s late goal, Everton haven’t won any of their other seven games with the Leicestershire official as referee.

Chelsea, on the other hand, haven’t lost at home in the league with Friend in charge.

Last in charge in the league during April’s disappointing 1-1 draw with West Ham, the Blues’ last Premier League defeat under Friend came way back in May 2012 as Liverpool recorded a convincing 4-1 win.

Chelsea have won seven and drawn three of their homes match with Friend as the official since the 2011/12 campaign.

Lee Betts and Scott Ledger will assist Friend in SW6, with Andre Mariner the fourth official.
