Maurizio Sarri has reportedly been trying to persuade Nabil Fekir to join Chelsea ahead of Bayern Munich.
The Blues were linked with a sensational move for Lyon attacking midfielder a few months ago as the Italian looked to bolster his squad before the summer’s transfer deadline.
The idea of a move to Stamford Bridge for Fekir became a possibility when a big-money switch to Premier League rivals Liverpool broke down before the World Cup got underway.
Fekir was all set to complete a £53m transfer to the Merseyside giants only for the deal to collapse following a medical as the Reds were said to be concerned with the playmaker’s right knee after he needed two operations to fix a cruciate ligament rupture he sustained in 2015.
In the end a move to England didn’t materialise for the 25-year-old, although his future is still in doubt.
According to L’Equipe , Bayern are set to rival the west London outfit for Fekir’s signature and that rumour is said to have sparked the Blues head coach into action.
Reports in Spain – via Sport Witness – claim Sarri has personally phoned the France international to outline his vision at Stamford Bridge.
Furthermore, the report states Sarri has promised Fekir a key role in his Blues starting XI should he swap Ligue 1 for the Premier League in the near future.
Fekir , who is contracted at the Groupama Stadium until 2020, recently admitted that a move to England could still be on the cards in the future.
“What happened with Liverpool is straight out of my head, I turned the page,” said Fekir . “We must not stop at this, we must move forward. There are things that must be accepted.
“My future? We have not discussed an extension yet, we will see what happens.”
