Maurizio Sarri ready to clash with Man City over midfielder deal

CHELSEA are ready to swoop for Sunderland starlet Bali Mumba, according to reports.

The Black Cats ace is regarded as one the hottest prospects in the lower leagues.

He has been a standout performer in the youth ranks and has already been promoted to Sunderland’s first team.

The Sun say Chelsea are sniffing around and they’re ready to splash the cash to secure his services.

Manchester City were reportedly the frontrunners for his signature.

But the ambitious Blues are ready to match City’s £2.5m budget.

Sunderland face a huge uphill battle keeping their prized asset with the north east heavyweights languishing in League One.

Mumba might fancy trying his luck in west London given the Blues’ impressive resurgence under new boss Maurizio Sarri.

They battered Crystal Palace 3-1 on Sunday to reinforce their title credentials.

Speaking after the clash, Sarri was coy when asked if his side are contenders.

“I don’t know,” he said.

“At the beginning we knew there was a gap of 30 points from last season.

“At the moment we need only to think about trying to recover a large part of the gap.

“I hope to recover almost all of it but I don’t know.

“It’s difficult to recover 30 points but we are trying.”

Mumba, 17, is a midfielder but can play in a more attacking role.

Sarri admitted before the weekend’s action that he’s looking to offload two current midfield players.

When asked about Danny Drinkwater and Victor Moses has explained that both stars are surplus to requirements.

He said: “The situation is that Drinkwater, for me, is suitable for a midfield with two midfielders.

“I told him two months ago what I think.

“Moses is more suitable to play like a wing-back, rather than like a winger or a full-back.”
