Maurizio Sarri makes decision over Callum Hudson-Odoi’s first-team future

Chelsea are looking to send Callum Hudson-Odoi on loan to another Premier League club in January after the youngster failed to break into Maurizio Sarri’s side, according to reports.

Hudson-Odoi enjoyed a hugely encouraging pre-season under the Italian, though has failed to make a single Premier League squad due to the side’s abundance of attacking talent.

And now Sky Sports report that Sarri has given the go-ahead for Chelsea bosses to try and find Hudson-Odoi a loan move when the window reopens in January.

Their preference is for Hudson-Odoi to get regular game time at another Premier League club, though have ruled out letting any rivals for a top-six berth have him.

He therefore looks likely to end up at a bottom-half club, with Burnley and Southampton both interested in bringing in a new winger in January.

Sarri has enjoyed a marvellous, unbeaten start to his career as Chelsea manager, though some fans have been unhappy with how little game time the club’s emerging youngsters have received.

Hudson-Odoi – who was given two Premier League appearances by Antonio Conte last season – has only featured for 35 minutes in the Europa League under Sarri, with his two outings coming off the bench against BATE Borisov.

Sarri had suggested at the start of the season that Hudson-Odoi would have a role to play at Chelsea, but the likes of Eden Hazard, Pedro and Willian have all been preferred.

Speaking about the youngster back in August, Sarri said: ‘He is a very young player. We have to wait. In the future he will be a very, very strong player.’
