It’s time for Chelsea to move on from winger as he’s become a hinderance

Willian’s decline from fan favourite to a focus of Chelsea fans’ frustration has been quite alarming.

Not long ago, he was seen as an excellent foil to Eden Hazard and as someone who brought a lot to the team.

But rumours linking him with a move to Barcelona during the summer seem to have unsettled the Brazilian.

Despite being handed an extended run in the team due to Pedro’s injury, Willian has looked sluggish.

He used to be known for his pace and delivery into the box, but those skills seem to have deserted him.

He takes too long with the ball at his feet, stifling Chelsea’s play.

And even his normally excellent set piece deliveries have been sloppy over the last few weeks.

Due to Chelsea’s unbeaten start to the season, Willian’s struggles may have been overlooked.

But teams are now setting up extremely defensively to attempt to slow Chelsea down as a consequence.

To break these teams down, Maurizio Sarri demands that the ball is moved quickly, and Willian seems incapable of that.

And Sarri eventually lost patience with Willian on Sunday against Everton and replaced him with Pedro.

At 30-years-old, it may be time for Chelsea to move on from Willian, and replace him with someone that fits Sarri’s philosophy.
