With Europa League qualification guaranteed, Chelsea’s match with PAOK at Stamford Bridge tonight gives Maurizio Sarri the chance to rotate his team.
The Blues are coming off the back of their first defeat of the season to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening, but the Italian is still set on other members of the squad getting a chance to prove what they can do.
Asked if he is still going to make changes despite the defeat to Spurs, Sarri said: “I think so because, in December, we have to play ten matches.
“So now we need to change. Not only from the last result, but we have to change in this competition. We had two targets: the first was qualification, which we’ve taken; the other one was to win our group.
“For this we need one point. But, of course, we cannot think about playing for one point otherwise it’s very easy we will lose the match.
“So the target for tomorrow is to win the match and be the first in our group. But, of course, we can do this also if we change seven or eight players.”
That means that the back-up back four are set to play ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga, with Cesc Fabregas also to come in for Jorginho in the midfield position.
Meanwhile, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is set to get another start in European football, with Ross Barkley to come in as well.
Up front Olivier Giroud is looking to add to his three goals in four games with the Frenchman finally hitting a bit of form in front of goal.
One man who won’t be in the squad is Eden Hazard, who will be getting a rest after picking up an ankle injury at Wembley at the weekend.
Predicted Chelsea team: Kepa, Emerson, Cahill, Christensen, Zappacosta, Fabregas, Barkley, Loftus-Cheek, Willian, Pedro, Giroud.
