Nabil Fekir phone call
Maurizio Sarri is desperate to secure the services of Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir.
In fact, the Chelsea manager is SO desperate to bring Fekir to Stamford Bridge that he’s personally phoned the 25-year-old, according to The Sun.
Chelsea and Bayern Munich are thought to be leading the race for the £50m-rated Lyon captain after his failed move to Liverpool in the summer.
And The Sun say Sarri is trying to gain the advantage by calling Fekir to assure him that he would ‘play a key role’ at Chelsea.
Wanted: Sandro Tonali
Manchester City have joined Chelsea in the battle to sign promising Italy talent Sandro Tonali.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who claim Pep Guardiola sent scouts to survey the central midfielder in action.
Tonali, 18, has been dubbed the ‘new Andrea Pirlo’ having impressed for Serie B side Brescia this season with four assists in 11 appearances.
His exploits have seen Roberto Mancini fast-track him into the senior Italy squad this month for fixtures against Portugal and the USA.
Chelsea, Inter Milan, Juventus and Roma have all been linked with Tonali – but the financial muscle of City could be cause for concern.
Joe Cole retirement
Former England, West Ham and Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has announced his retirement.
Cole, who turned 37 last week, made 716 professional appearances, scoring 104 goals for seven clubs, and completed his career with Tampa Bay Rowdies in the United Soccer League. He now wishes to pursue a career as a coach.
He made 56 England appearances and appeared in three World Cup tournaments after making his debut aged 19 following an impressive start to his career at West Ham.
“After 20 years as a professional, the time has come for me to hang up my boots. It has been a dream come true. All of it,” Cole said.
“Whatever is next, I hope the next two decades are as special as my last 20 years as a professional have been. A huge thanks to everyone who helped me along that path.”
