With Olivier Giroud ageing, it’s important for Chelsea to invest in a striking option.
Maurizio Sarri has been a revelation at Chelsea. He has come in, fixed their issues, and got them playing a beautiful style of football.
That said, it’s clear to see why fans trust his every decision. While replacing Giroud is never an easy feat to accomplish, it’s important Chelsea look ahead to the future. The Frenchman ages at 32 years old, and he’s not getting any younger.
Alvaro Morata is a young option for Sarri. The Spaniard has also been in fine form this season, after failing under Antonio Conte. He is finally on the scoring end of goals, something which the Chelsea faithful have been craving.
However, he needs backup, and Sarri appears to have found it. According to The Sun, the Italian boss has located Callum Wilson as an option. Ageing at 26, you can see why Wilson is prepared to get a big move.
In case you didn’t know, Wilson has consistently been coming up with the goods for Bournemouth. He has been their star player for many seasons now, nurturing under Eddie Howe. But it’s time for him to get his move away, to a club in which he can truly flourish.
While many will be quick to brush this concept aside, I believe Wilson has what it takes to challenge Morata for a place in the starting eleven.
Both have similar strengths, but Wilson is, by all means, the superior finisher in one on one situations. While this isn’t the be all or end all, Sarri could grow frustrated with Morata.
Either way, it’s going to be a healthy competition. Playing at two completely different spectrums of the game, Wilson and Morata will teach each other a lot.
Besides, having Wilson as a backup option wouldn’t be a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination.
