Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri makes major transfer hint ahead of January window

CHELSEA boss Maurizio Sarri has hinted that there will be no new signings in January.

The Blues have made a strong start to life under Sarri, who arrived in the summer from Napoli.

After a disappointing campaign under Antonio Conte, the Italian was axed and his compatriot joined in his place and the results have been immediately effective.

The likes of Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Kepa Arrizabalaga arrived to allow the 59-year-old to implement his possession-based style.

But it has left a number of players ostracised, including Danny Drinkwater, Victor Moses and Gary Cahill.

All of them have been linked with moves away from the club in January, but Sarri has hinted there are no plans afoot to replace any potential departures.

Rumours have emerged that Chelsea are looking to sign a striker and a new defender.

But when asked whether he had spoken to the Chelsea board about their transfer plans, Sarri said: “No, I didn’t ask anything about it to my club because at the moment I think we can stay with these players and be competitive.

“Maybe not for the top but we have to try to arrive close to the top.

“It is too easy to go into the market for every problem.

“I think we need to improve and we need to improve with these players because they can improve.

“It is my work, I think. For the market, there is the club. I can say to the club my opinion about what I think I need but my job is to try to improve my players.”

Meanwhile, Sarri has revealed that Eden Hazard has not fully recovered from the back injury he sustained last month.

When asked whether or not Hazard was fit, the Italian coach said: “I don’t know.

“Eden yesterday had a large part of the training with the team.

“He might not be ready for 90 minutes yet. It was the first part of training for a few weeks.

“He might be able to play for 40/45 minutes. I want to speak with him first.”
