Alvaro Morata makes surprising admission about competing with Harry Kane for Golden Boot

Alvaro Morata has revealed that he is not looking to chase Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane and other top Premier League strikers in the quest for the league’s Golden Boot.

The £60million Spaniard scored his first brace in over a year when he helped Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 3-1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Spain international continued his recent upturn in form as he scored in each half before Pedro sealed the win that extended the Blues unbeaten start to the season to 11 games.

Morata’s form has been questioned over the past year, but he produced a man of the match performance for Maurizio Sarri’s men.

His double meant that he has netted 16 league goals in 41 appearances in just over a year after moving to west London.

However – whilst the likes of Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero have been prolific for Spurs and Manchester City in the Premier League top goalscorers charts consistently in recent years – Morata doesn’t feel the need to compete with him and instead said that the Blues team should collectively share the responsibility of finding the back of the net in their quest for fifth Premier League crown.

“At the end of the season, if we want to fight for the Premier League, I need to score many goals, Eden [Hazard] has to score many goals, the other strikers, Willian, Pedro, [Ross] Barkley,” Morata said.

“There is Hazard, there is [Sadio] Mane, [Roberto] Firmino, [Sergio] Aguero, [Harry] Kane.

“This is the league with the best strikers in the world. I don’t need to think about scoring more goals than other players.”

Morata also said that he is returning to the form he displayed at the start of his Chelsea career after a difficult 2018.

He added: “I had a period where everything – if it is raining, I’m angry because it’s raining. If I miss, it’s because the pitch is too wet. It was only excuses. It is not good.

“Everyone can have a bad period in their life, but we are famous, we have a lot of things.

“Sometimes people think we are not human, with no feelings, with no problems.

“The important thing is to find the right balance. Now, I have, and I am very happy. I’m better.

“In the last month of last season, I was down, down, down, down. I cannot be more down.

“When you touch the limit, the only thing you can do is to come back.”
