Chelsea should turn to Michy Batshuayi if Olivier Giroud leaves the club amid reports from The Mirror that West Ham United are considering a January bid.
What’s the word?
Giroud has only been part of the Chelsea fold since January when he signed from Arsenal.
Since Maurizio Sarri replaced Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge in the summer, the French World Cup winner has started four Premier League games and has come off the bench in a further three.
The striker is yet to score a goal for Chelsea this season, but that has not stopped other clubs from being linked to him.
If Giroud does depart from Stamford Bridge, then the Blues will need a replacement, and they already have one within their ranks.
Why does Batshuayi deserve a chance?
The Belgian has been on Chelsea’s books since 2016, but he has only made 53 appearances in all competitions.
In that time he has netted 19 goals, but he has failed to cement a regular starting spot in the team.
In the second half of last season Batshuayi joined Borussia Dortmund on loan, and during the 2018-19 campaign he is at Valencia on a temporary basis.
The striker has not made as much of an impact in Spain so far as he has scored once in 10 outings, but he has proven in the past that he can net important goals.
It seems foolish for Chelsea to splash out on a new signing if they already have a striker who is yet to be unleashed at Stamford Bridge.
If he failed to deliver, then at least it would not have been an expensive mistake.
