Former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer believes the Blues are a better side with Olivier Giroud in the team.
Signed from Arsenal back in January with Alvaro Morata struggling in front of goal, the French international has had a difficult start to the new season after failing to find the back of the net for Maurizio Sarri’s team.
A starter in the team’s last four league games, Giroud looks likely to keep his place in the team against Manchester United despite his fellow striker netting in his last two appearances
Although the experienced frontman hasn’t managed to get off the mark for the season, its clear to see that Eden Hazard benefits from playing off the 32-year-old.
Evident in the 4-1 win over Cardiff City where the Belgian netted a hat-trick, Schwarzer has claimed that Sarri has realised that his team are better with Giroud in the starting XI.
“Giroud at the World Cup was outstanding,” the Australian told The Debate on Sky Sports. “His impact was incredible.
“A lot was said about not getting a shot on target not scoring a goal but his contribution to the team was phenomenal and he’s carried that on now with Chelsea.
“Sarri has identified it, and realised that having Giroud in your side you automatically become a better side and I think he’s underestimated at times how important he is and what he brings to the team.”
