Manchester United suffer another injury blow ahead of Chelsea clash

Manchester United could be without one of their first choice midfielders going into a key set of fixtures which involves tough games against Chelsea, Juventus and Manchester City.

Marouane Fellaini has been away on international duty with Belgium over the last week or so and a groin issue has kept him out of two consecutive training sessions.

Worries are now mounting that Fellaini could be unavailable for Man United selection ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s match against Chelsea, the in-form team revived by new manager Mauricio Sarri after struggling last season.

Belgian outlet HLN report that there is a “big question mark” regarding Fellaini’s fitness going into Belgium’s friendly against Scotland on Tuesday evening.

As it’s a friendly and not a fixture in the new UEFA Nations League it’s likely Belgium will allow Fellaini to miss Tuesday’s game to regain fitness for United’s next few games.

It’s also possible that Fellaini could be sent back to United to recover in Manchester. He missed the country’s open training session on Sunday and it was explained by a groin issue, but having also been absent from training on Monday, it would be silly to risk him in a friendly.

Fellaini is a negative option for United to have. Some suggest his presence holds United and manager Jose Mourinho back as they can rely on his aerial prowess to win games.

However, he’s proved vital throughout the last three or four seasons with important goals and performances.

Mourinho trusts Fellaini to follow instructions to a tee and would be disappointed to be without him away at Chelsea.

So, all in all it’s a good news for us!
