Charly Musonda is back on the training pitch at Chelsea’s Cobham training base as he steps up his recovery from injury.
Joining Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem on loan at the end of August, the Belgian U21 international was looking to make a big impression in Holland after a frustrating time at Celtic at the start of the year.
Initially moving to Parkhead on an 18-month loan deal back in January, the 21-year-old’s time in Scotland was cut short in May after only making eight appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ team.
Given that opportunities under Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge would be few and far between, Musonda joined Chelsea teammates Jake Clarke-Salter and Eduardo at Vitesse.
However, the deal hasn’t gone to plan at all.
Picking up a shin injury in a behind-closed doors game against Royal Antwerp in September, the player is now back in west London as he looks to make a swift recovery.
Taking to his Instagram account, Musonda uploaded a video of himself taking part in a number of drills and suggested that he could return to action come the start of next year.
He wrote: “2019. Rehab, long way to go, come back stronger!”
With his long-term future at the club looking in serious doubt 12 months ago, Musonda put pen-to-paper on a new deal until 2022 back in December.
Impressing in his loan spell with Real Betis at the end of the 2015/16 season, the winger will be hoping to return to top form as soon as possible as he looks to make a name for himself at Chelsea.
