Maurizio Sarri made one unexpected change to his team at the weekend, leaving Pedro on the bench while Willian started.
The Brazilian wasn’t able to make much of an impact, and in the end it was his replacement who broke the deadlock, firing home to give us the all important lead in the game.
Sarri spoke after the game about the wealth of options he has in that position, and he was quick to include our favourite young live wire Callum Hudson Odoi:
‘Pedro is a great player and it is normal for him to score but I am really very lucky because Hazard, Pedro, Moses and Willian in the same position, that’s very lucky and I don’t want to forget Hudson-Odoi,’ Sarri said in his press conference following the game, as quoted on the official Chelsea website.
That follows on from his comments just before about Marcos Alonso, who he called “maybe the best left back in Europe” after another decisive performance that saw him pick up yet another assist.
While this praise will mean a lot, Callum knows he’s likely to have to wait until the Carabao Cup tie against Liverpool before he gets his first start of the season – especially with the team winning 4/4 so far.
We’re counting the days till we see him back on the pitch for us again.
