CHELSEA are overly reliant on Eden Hazard and it could cost them this season.
That is according to Liverpool legend John Barnes.
Hazard scored a hat-trick on Saturday for Chelsea as they beat Cardiff 4-1.
After a late return from the World Cup, Hazard has hit form quickly with five goals from five games this season.
The Belgian is scored 94 goals for the Blues and is their most potent threat in attack with Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata struggling in front of goal.
And Barnes believes Chelsea are too dependent on Hazard and feels they could be trouble if he suffers an injury.
Barnes said on beIN SPORTS: “I think they are overly reliant on Hazard.
“I think if Hazard gets injured, they really are overly reliant on him.
“If he drops form and he doesn’t score, he’s not an out and out scorer.”
Speaking after Hazard’s virtuoso display, his manager Maurizio Sarri claimed he has the potential to score 40 goals this season.
“We have spoken and I told him he can score 40 goals,” Sarri said.
”He has to improve some things, but he can do it.”
And Hazard says he is enjoying playing under Sarri.
He said: “The manager just wants Chelsea to keep the ball, and then when we can find a solution we need to find good passes between the lines, like Jorginho, Kovacic and Fabregas can do.
“So, we have a lot of good players, and at the moment we are in confidence, so we shoot, we score.
“We need to keep this momentum.
“We have a lot of freedom on the pitch, not just the three in front but all over the pitch, so when we are in this condition we just need to take the ball and try something, and at the moment something happens, so that is very good.
“When I’m on the pitch I’m just trying to create chances, score goals. A hat-trick comes with confidence, so I will try to do more of this.”
