CHELSEA star Eden Hazard has been hailed as the most gifted player in the history of the club.
The Belgian winger has made a sensational start to the new Premier League season.
His five goals in the opening five games have fired Chelsea to the top of the table.
Hazard’s hat-trick against Cardiff inspired boss Maurizio Sarri to claim that he can score 40 goals and win Golden Boot.
The 27-year-old is now ninth in Chelsea’s all-time top scorers list having hit the back of the net 94 times.
Frank Lampard tops the list with 211 strikes, while Didier Drogba is fourth having notched 164 times in his two spells in west London.
But former Blues and Ireland striker Tony Cascarino thinks Hazard is the greatest player to have represented the club.
“Chelsea have had many exceptional players, from Peter Osgood to John Terry and Didier Drogba, but Eden Hazard is the most gifted in the club’s history,” he wrote in The Times.
“He has a bit of everything, the full package, and keeping him at Stamford Bridge was the best bit of business in the summer transfer window.
“He made no fuss about staying despite Real Madrid’s interest and has got on with the job.
“His goal ratio is not far off Drogba’s despite not being a striker.
“He has won trophies and player of the year awards but he still does not receive the praise that he deserves.
“Maybe because he switched off a little under José Mourinho he is not viewed as highly as he should be.
“But Chelsea fans should know that they are watching not only one of the best players in Europe at the moment, but the best they have had.”
Hazard is the early pace-setter in the race for the Golden Boot, with one more goal than both Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic.
His Chelsea team-mate Pedro is one of a handful of players who have scored three goals this season.
The Stamford Bridge outfit get their Europa League campaign underway against PAOK of Greece on Thursday (5.55pm).
