Chelsea News: Deal confirmed, Kante contract issues, Willian on Blues future

Wales international Ethan Ampadu has signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea.

Ampadu, signed from Exeter in July 2017, has impressed since moving to Stamford Bridge.

The versatile 18-year-old has made seven Chelsea appearances to date and is certain to get further opportunities this season under Maurizio Sarri.

He could be involved in tomorrow’s Europa League clash at PAOK in Greece and has signed an improved deal ahead of that tie.

“I’m really proud and happy, I’m looking forward to the next five years,” he said. “All I have got to do now is continue to work hard, and hopefully good things will happen.”

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said: “Ethan has shown great potential and unbelievable maturity since arriving at Chelsea a year ago.

“In this short time he convinced a lot of people with his exceptional quality and mentality and we look forward to watching him develop into a key player for the club over the coming years.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea and N’Golo Kante are reportedly still yet to find an agreement over a new contract.

The France international has proved pivotal to the success at Chelsea in his two seasons at the club.

Blues chiefs are desperate for the former Leicester title-winner to pen a new deal following prolonged interest from French champions Paris St-Germain.

But according to Telefoot, an agreement has yet to be found in what could be a worrying development for the Stamford Bridge giants.

And finally, Chelsea star Willian insists he’s put the past behind him after cutting a frustrated figure under Antonio Conte last season.

Willian was linked with summer moves to Manchester United and Barcelona and previously said he would have left Stamford Bridge had Conte stayed.

But the Brazilian insists: “I don’t want to talk about the past.

“At the moment I’m happy, with a new manager, with a new profile of football. We have a great team atmosphere, we have great players. We can do everything this season to win titles.

“I am very proud to stay and be a Chelsea player. It’s an honour to play for this club. I am very happy at Chelsea.

“Everyone knows what happened in the last window, but my mind was always at Chelsea.”
