Chelsea are in talks to extend the contract of David Luiz.
According to reports, the centre back will be offered another year on his deal, which expires in 12 months.
Luiz has not had the best start to the season, but he’s still seemingly established himself as Maurizio Sarri’s number one centre-back alongside Antonio Rudiger, and he looks set to start for the forseeable future.
That makes it logical to keep him around another year – although some fans may not be too happy about it.
Luiz is an important character in the dressing room, and is one of the longest serving players at the club. His influence behind the scenes can’t be overestimated.
The Sun’s story say that the 31 year old wants a two year deal at £125,000 a week – but that’s very unlikely.
The policy at Chelsea is to not offer more than one year to players over 30, and even David Luiz doesn’t get to be an exception there.
