AC Milan plot January swoop for Chelsea star after decade-long pursuit

AC Milan are reportedly targeting a January swoop for Chelsea’s Cesc Fabergas.

Fabregas has struggled to break into Maurizio Sarri’s team, but the midfielder did start the new season sidelined with a knee problem.

Sarri has yet to call Fabregas into a matchday squad, with the Spaniard’s only appearance so far this campaign coming in the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City.

Fabregas is now being tracked by AC Milan, and the Italians feel they are in an excellent position to land the playmaker.

Corriere dello Sport claim Milan have been chasing Fabregas since his Arsenal days and have seen a host of moves for his services fail.

Milan and Chelsea did some transfer business in the summer when Tiemoue Bakayoko joined the Serie A side on a season-long loan.

Bakayoko could make that switch permanent next summer, and Milan are hopeful of using their good working relationship with Chelsea to sign Fabregas this January.

Fabregas’ Chelsea deal expires at the end of June, and he will be free to speak to other clubs after December.

Sarri has played N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho in midfield so far this season, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley warming the bench as cover.

Fabregas could still force his way back into Sarri’s plans, just as he did when Antonio Conte first arrived at Stamford Bridge.

With full fitness still a way off for Fabregas, Milan will be made to wait to see if Chelsea are open to a sale.
