Fabregas, Zouma, van Ginkel – latest Chelsea injury news and expected return dates

For the second successive year, Chelsea have the honour of taking part in the traditional curtain-raiser for the brand new Premier League season.

The Blues, who won the FA Cup last term, face the reigning champions of England Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon as they look to avenge the defeat suffered at the hands of London rivals Arsenal 12 months ago.

This summer’s World Cup has resulted in a number of first-team players not playing a single minute of the club’s pre-season friendlies thus far.

That includes Gary Cahill, Willian as well as Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois.

The latter trio have been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge and the Belgian international has apparently informed the club of his wish to seal a transfer to Real Madrid before the window closes.

Therefore, new head coach Maurizio Sarri has somewhat of a selection headache on his hands and he still has to make a decision over Willian and Hazard.

At this stage of the season, it’s unlikely that any manager will have a fully fit squad.

The Italian is no different. He has been rather lucky in that he hasn’t had to deal with too many injuries of late, but there are still a few concerns ahead of the game at Wembley.

We have taken a look at the latest situation in the Blues’ treatment room ahead of the game against City thanks to the good people at physioroom.com.
