Chelsea are looking to offload Danny Drinkwater with Bundesliga side Schalke a possible destination.
The Blues have a host of midfield options with £57m new signing Jorginho, star man N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic, Cesc Fabregas, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Maurizio Sarri has already sent Tiemoue Bakayoko out on loan to AC Milan.
And the Blues boss now wants to trim down his squad further but letting 28-year-old England ace Drinkwater leave.
Starsport understands Schalke, who failed to sign team-mate Loftus-Cheek on loan, are interested.
The former Manchester United youngster could opt to stay and fight for his place, but Sarri has little intention of using him.
Meanwhile, Chelsea defender Ola Aina has signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge, keeping him at the club until 2021.
And the versatile 21-year-old will now spend the new season on loan at Italian side Torino.
Aina, who has made six appearances for Chelsea, spent last term with Hull in the Championship and featured regularly for the Tigers.
He will now hope to continue his development in Serie A.
Kenneth Omeruo has also left the west Londoners and has signed a season-long loan deal with La Liga outfit Leganes.
And finally, Chelsea winger Willian believes Sarri’s attack-focused tactics are seemingly to Brazil’s ‘samba style’.
The 30-year-old Brazil international assisted N’Golo Kante’s opening goal as the Blues won 3-0 at Huddersfield in Sarri’s first league match in charge last Saturday.
Willian told ESPN: “Is it fun to play this way? I think so.
“We have a lot of players with quality up front, like Eden Hazard and Pedro. Players like that want to play football.
“That’s why [Sarri] talked about ‘fun’ football. This is what we will try to do this season.
“Is this like Brazil’s Samba style? Yes. This is what we do in Brazil and are trying to do here, playing with skill and movement.
“The manager tells us to play, to enjoy ourselves on the pitch, with responsibility. Now we have a different style.”
Chelsea beat Huddersfield at the John Smith’s Stadium thanks to goals from Kante, Jorginho and Pedro.
The Blues welcome London rivals Arsenal to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
