Chelsea are looking to bring in more quality to their ranks in this summer transfer window, and Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic has become the third target for the club.
The only signings so far the Blues have completed are Jorginho from Napoli and Robert Green, who come in to act as cover for first and second choice Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero respectively.
The Blues new head coach, Maurizio Sarri, reportedly wants a new midfielder to beef up his current options of N’Golo Kante, Ross Barkley, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Cesc Fabregas, Danny Drinkwater and new signing Jorginho.
He has had an agreement with the club’s top brass to sign Real Madrid midfielder Kovacic this summer, according to Calciomercato.
But the deal is still stalling because Real are uninterested in listening to any offers for the Croatia international.
Kovacic is reportedly frustrated at the Santiago Bernabeu and apparently wants out this summer, after failing to break into the three-man midfield of Casemiro, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.
