Christian Pulisic is a target for Chelsea as the Blues prepare for a fresh start under Maurizio Sarri and the potential departure of Willian.
Manchester United have long been tipped to sign the Brazilian but it is another player on the radar of the Old Trafford top brass who has emerged as the Blues’ preferred option to succeed the World Cup star this summer.
The USA international is a rising star in the Bundesliga and already one of Borussia Dortmund’s most important players following the sale of Ousmane Dembele last season.
He can play out wide or in a more central role and excels in tight spaces where he can use his low centre of gravity and explosive pace to breeze past opponents to cause a threat in behind defences.
According to the Mail, Chelsea have already turned down £50million from Barcelona for Willian as they await an offer from United.
Sarri expected to take over from Antonio Conte once the final details of his departure from Napoli are confirmed and Pulisic would be a neat fit for the Italian, given the profile of player he worked with in Serie A.
The Blues are also expected to complete deals for reinforcements in other areas of the pitch, including defence and in goal with Danielle Rugani linked as the former.
Eden Hazard’s future remains the subject of discussion but he too would benefit from the signing of another creative player given how well he has played when able to share the burden of inspiring his teammates in previous seasons.
