Chelsea fans send clear message to Roman Abramovich as he celebrates 15 years as owner

July 1 marks 15 years to the day since Roman Abramovich became owner of Chelsea Football Club.

Having clinched a Champions League spot on the final day of the 2002/03 season against Liverpool courtesy of Jesper Gronkjaer’s goal, it would be all change at Stamford Bridge and in the Premier League come August.

While Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United had spent big to win the league title following the dawn of the Premier League back in 1992, the Blues took spending to a different level in the summer of 2003.

Claude Makelele, Hernan Crespo, Adrian Mutu, Juan Sebastian Veron and Damien Duff all arrived for big money, with the likes of Glen Johnson, Joe Cole, Geremi and Wayne Bridge also sealing transfers to west London.

Although silverware would not follow in Abramovich’s first season in the capital, the Blues have won 15 major trophies over the following 15 years, including the famous Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich in May 2012.

With Chelsea lifting the FA Cup in May, the club’s supporters will be hoping that more major honours can come their way next season despite the current uncertainty in the capital.

Question marks surround the owner’s future at the club at present following visa troubles, while the Blues have yet to clarify whether or not Antonio Conte will still be in charge next season.

Given Chelsea fans are undoubtedly concerned about the upcoming season given there has been no word from the club, supporters sent Abramovich a clear message when the club marked 15 years of the Russian via their Twitter account.

Here’s what the fans have had to say.
