CHELSEA want to offload Danny Drinkwater this summer following the midfielder’s difficult debut year in west London.
Drinkwater joined Chelsea for £30m last September, leaving Leicester a year after helping them to their stunning Premier League title success.
The 28-year-old has struggled since moving to Stamford Bridge, making just five Premier League starts for the Blues.
The Daily Mail now report that Chelsea will listen to any offers for Drinkwater this summer and would send him out on loan too.
While the club’s managerial situation remains unclear, they are pressing forward with their transfer plans.
Chelsea want to bring in a midfielder for next season and are trying to land in-demand Nice star Jean-Michael Seri.
Drinkwater’s playing opportunities will be hit even harder if a new star is signed.
And the Blues would rather get him off their books.
West Ham have been linked with Drinkwater in recent weeks and could make a move for him with Chelsea now willing to do a deal.
Meanwhile, Seri is reportedly in advanced talks with Chelsea over a move to Stamford Bridge with Roman Abramovich eager to land him.
Christian Ollivier of RTLFrance tweeted: “Jean-Michael Seri, in very advanced contact with Chelsea. Even without a coach named so far. Personal choice of Abramovich.”
Manchester United and Arsenal have also been linked with the Nice ace.
Chelsea have ‘shown great interest’ in signing star player this summer, would be huge deal
Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann and Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen have been linked with a move to Barcelona, but it’s now claimed the two are not the priority targets for Ernesto Valverde’s side.
That’s probably because there’s difficulties getting them.
Today’s edition of the Catalan newspaper Sport claims AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar has taken the first place in the list of objectives for the La Liga winners. The 22-year-old is currently with the France national team and is now focused on the 2018 World Cup.
Last summer, Barcelona, Liverpool and Arsenal made late approaches to secure Lemar’s services. The Gunners even made a €100m bid for the France international on deadline day, which was turned down by Monaco.
Sport claims Barcelona will face competition from league rivals Atletico Madrid and Chelsea. The Europa League winners and the Premier League outfit have “shown a great interest” in signing Lemar this summer.
Diego Simeone’s side are now trying to convince Griezmann to stay at Atletico with the “eventual arrival of Lemar”, even though the Monaco star’s price tag of €90-€100m still seems excessive for the Spanish capital club.
