Pat Nevin tips 23-year-old to become key Chelsea FC star

Pat Nevin is convinced that Tiemoue Bakayoko will become an integral part of the Chelsea FC team in coming seasons.

The France international moved to Chelsea FC in a £40m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in the 2017 summer transfer window.

Bakayoko helped AS Monaco to win the Ligue 1 title and reach the Champions League semi-finals last term.

However, the 23-year-old has struggled to fill Nemanja Matic’s void after the Serbia international moved to Manchester United.

Bakayoko has been unable to make the adjustment to the Premier League, although he has shown recent signs of improvement.

Indeed, the Frenchman produced an assured performance in the middle of the park in Chelsea FC’s 1-0 win over Liverpool FC.

Former Chelsea FC winger Nevin believes Bakayoko will have an important role to play in the west London side’s future.

“His confidence grew with every involvement and the fans should know they played a massive part in that,” Nevin told Chelsea FC’s website.

“There are times at all clubs when a player having a bad time is made the scapegoat even when he begins to play a bit better but that hasn’t happened here and it is to be commended.

“Some players cruise into a new club with new team-mates in a new league in a new country while managing a new culture.

Others, however, take some time to acclimatise and I will not be at all surprised if Tiemoue becomes a vital and integral part of the Chelsea team over the next few years. We really have only had glimpses of his ability and power so far.

“His willingness to get into the opposition box ahead of everyone else is pretty special. I hope and suspect that his recent form will be a harbinger of many more fine performances and indeed goals in the coming seasons.”

Chelsea FC won the Premier League title last season after the Blues finished seven points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the title race.

The Blues lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley last season to miss out on a double in their current campaign.
