The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have slightly renewed their optimism around Stamford Bridge with their latest form putting them back in the race for a top-four finish.
Antonio Conte and his side have been a figment of their normal title-winning selves this season as they’re still looking likely to fall short of Champions League qualification.
A mixture of factors have resulted in this happening but most of all the abysmal transfer windows Chelsea have been apart of this year has really not helped.
To say they haven’t helped is an understatement, their business has been the main reason behind their failures this season and if that is to be amended this summer, then the Blues should seriously take a look at Benfica’s Franco Cervi, who is valued at £14.4 million by Transfer Markt.
At 23-years-old, Cervi is an exciting winger that really has the potential to prosper in a Chelsea shirt with his dynamic play going forward to create chances for himself and team-mates around him.
Chelsea’s normally dominant attacking players such as Willian, Pedro and Eden Hazard have all been rather quiet in recent weeks, and so it makes sense to bring in more quality in this regard. Our landlord thinks that Cervi would be a great choice.
This season with 4 goals and 10 assists, the Argentinian forward has proven his worth and that alone should encourage Chelsea towards his signature.
What’s more, he’s also got a brilliant technical ability, allowing him to move past players and drive towards goal. An excellent passer, he’s also great at moving the ball forward, and at 23-years-old, he’s only going to get better.
HUGE Nemanja Matic claim made about N’Golo Kante
That is the opinion of former Chelsea striker-turned-pundit Tony Cascarino.
Matic was allowed to join Manchester United last summer for a fee of £40million, and his departure ultimately hurt the Blues who saw their title defence fold spectacularly.
While Kante has continued to be Antonio Conte’s ever reliable performer with his energetic displays in midfield, there have been question marks over some of his team-mates.
And Cascarino thinks that without Matic, the Blues lack a suitable player to partner Kante in the middle of the park.
“N’Golo Kanté has really missed having Nemanja Matic alongside him in the centre of Chelsea’s midfield this season,” Cascarino told The Times.
“Tiemoue Bakayoko was brought in last summer but has failed to make anything like the impact of the Serb, who joined Manchester United.
“Danny Drinkwater, another new midfield signing, has been given very little time on the pitch, and I don’t think Cesc Fabregas, for all his qualities, is an ideal partner for Kante.
“At least Kante has overcome a difficult start to the season to find some form.
“His running ability is just incredible — he is the ultimate athlete.”
Kante played the full 90 minutes for Chelsea last night in their 1-1 draw at home to Huddersfield which dented their chances of a top-four finish.
