Frank Sinclair believes the time is now to take a risk with the U18s head coach.
Chelsea legend Frank Sinclair believes now is the perfect time for the Blues to appoint Jody Morris as their new head coach to replace Antonio Conte.
For the past couple of seasons Morris has been in charge of the club’s U18s and guided them to the quadruple during this campaign with the youngsters playing an attractive brand of attacking football.
It is widely believed that Conte is set for the exit of Stamford Bridge, while Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri is regards as the front runner to take over the role from his fellow Italian.
However, Sinclair believes that the job Morris has done within the club should not be overlooked and that his lack of senior team management shouldn’t get in the way of Roman Abramovich taking a punt on the former Chelsea player.
“It would be a great opportunity, right now, to go for the likes of Jody Morris, who has been unbelievably successful in these last two seasons,” Sinclair told Love Sport Radio.
“Let him have the remit of bringing these youngsters through to the first team, along with the first team that he has at the moment and give them an opportunity.
“It might take 18 months before you get the success back at the club, but at least you have got the stability and you have got young players coming through which will obviously save you a lot of money as well.
“It is not a major surprise that there is speculation with the manager in between the second and third seasons. If you look at the recent history of the football club, no manager has seen out three seasons as the manager at the club.
“It is the format of the club and I think it is a format that is successful in the way that the trophies that Chelsea have won over the previous ten to 15 years.”
