Chelsea will be the favourites to land highly-rated Napoli midfielder Jorginho this summer if they appoint his current boss at the Serie A outfit, Maurizio Sarri, to replace Antonio Conte in the Stamford Bridge hot seat, according to Metro.
The Times reported on Thursday that the Blues, along with the rest of the Premier League’s top six, were in the hunt for the Italy international’s signature.
€60 million (£52.9 million) is the asking price on Jorginho’s head after a superb season for Napoli which has seen the team run Juventus close in the race for the title.
The Stadio San Paolo side beat the Old Lady in Turin last month to blast their way back into contention, but have failed to win their subsequent two league fixtures.
Only an incredibly unlikely series of results and a dramatic swing in goal difference in the last two matches would allow Napoli to overtake Juventus and claim the crown.
With that in mind, it is believed that Sarri could be tempted to take the reigns at Chelsea, if Conte does depart as expected.
And the 59-year-old would likely be a big draw for Jorginho, who is thought to favour a move to the Premier League over the coming months.
The Brazilian-born maestro has been the heartbeat of the Napoli team over recent years with his sharp, incisive passing and would help revitalise a Chelsea midfield which has struggled this term.
Signings such as Danny Drinkwater, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ross Barkley have failed to make an impact, whilst Cesc Fabregas turned 31 earlier this month and will soon need replacing.
The Blues bring their top-flight season to an end away at Newcastle United on Sunday still hoping to finish in the Champions League places, before a trip to Wembley to face Manchester United in the FA Cup final.
