Former Arsenal star and pundit Paul Merson believes Eden Hazard will seal a transfer away from Chelsea this summer as he doesn’t want to be there forever.
Earlier today reports emerged from Don Balon that Barcelona was considering joining Real Madrid in the running to sign Hazard, so they may want to take note of this bold claim by Merson.
Hazard has been at Chelsea since 2012 and despite winning two Premier League titles in that time, he may well feel he could now be representing a bigger club.
The Belgium international could almost certainly slot into most top sides around Europe and give himself a better chance of challenging for honors such as the Champions League and Ballon d’Or with a switch away from Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea certainly looks to have some cause for concern as they look set to miss out on a top-four place this term, meaning a number of their star players could surely look to move on in pursuit of Champions League football.
‘I don’t think Eden Hazard will be there by then. If Hazard doesn’t leave Chelsea this summer he’ll be there forever. And I don’t think he wants that,’ Merson wrote in his column in the Daily Star.
Diario Gol has previously reported that Hazard has informed Chelsea of his plans to leave.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte responds to Anthony Martial transfer speculation
Antonio Conte has responded to speculation Chelsea are looking to sign Anthony Martial in the summer.
The French attacker has been linked with the Manchester United exit having slipped down the pecking order since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in the summer.
Reports have claimed the 22-year-old is unhappy at Old Trafford and will seek to leave once the transfer window opens at the end of the season.
Juventus have been heavily linked with a move for the former Monaco man but reports emerged recently Chelsea are interested in taking the France international to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea manager Conte was asked about the rumors ahead of his side’s clash with Liverpool in the Premier League.
“I think this is not the right moment to speak about this. I don’t like to talk about players of other teams,” Conte said.
“It’s disrespectful for the other players, for my players, for the other clubs. Our focus is to finish this season in the best possible way.”
Mourinho’s been criticised for not giving Martial as much game-time in the past few months but after the defeat against Brighton, the United boss claimed his decisions have been correct and hit out at the displays of his attackers.
“The players that replaced others they didn’t perform at a good level. And when individuals don’t perform at a good level it’s difficult for the team to perform at a good level,” Mourinho told Sky.
“So maybe now you understand why some players play more than others and you won’t ask why some play more.”
