Official Starting Eleven: Southampton vs Chelsea

Chelsea team today: Courtois; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Cahill (c); Zappacosta, Kante, Fabregas, Alonso; Willian, Morata, Hazard.

Subs: Caballero, Moses, Emerson, Bakayoko, Barkley, Pedro, Giroud.

Chelsea have thrown it away, for one reason or another.

Having been in pole position to qualify for the Champions League, four points from their last five games have all but put them out of the race altogether.

10 points is the difference with six games to go, although they have a game in hand on third-placed Liverpool – and host them at Stamford Bridge in the penultimate game of the season.

Southampton have had no such luck of having anything to lose in the first place, in what’s been a thoroughly miserable season.

Mauricio Pellegrino, only appointed in the summer, has already gone.

Mark Hughes, while leading the club to the FA Cup semi-finals, has also lost his two bread-and-butter games in the Premier League, even if they deserved better at Arsenal on Sunday.

Time is running out and they’re three points from safety.
