Garth Crooks claims 29-year-old is Chelsea FC’s best player this season

Garth Crooks believes Chelsea FC winger Willian has been the defending Premier League champions’ best player this season.

The Brazil international started the season out of favor under Antonio Conte after Willian struggled to hold down a regular starting spot last term.

Indeed, Willian started 15 times and made 15 appearances from the bench in Chelsea FC’s title-winning campaign in 2016-17.

However, the South American has fought his way back into the starting XI as the Blues toiled in the defense of their Premier League title.

Willian has scored six goals and has made seven assists in 32 games in the Premier League this season to help cover some of the deficiencies in the Blues team.

Eden Hazard is regarded by most as Chelsea FC’s best player following his key role in their title successes in 2015 and 2017.

However, former Spurs forward Crooks believes Willian has been Chelsea FC’s outstanding player in the current campaign.

“I think this lad has been Chelsea’s best player this season,” Crooks told BBC Sport.

“He provided two assists against Southampton and has been as consistent as anyone in the Blues line-up.”

Chelsea FC has won the Premier League title in two of the past three seasons.

The Blues are in fifth place in the Premier League table and seven points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea FC will take on Southampton in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley later this month.

Chelsea Fans Are Demanding Marco Van Ginkel Back at the Club Next Season

Chelsea fans are already casting their eyes towards next season, and some are hoping that Dutch international Marco van Ginkel is brought back to Stamford Bridge.

The center-midfielder is actually still officially a Chelsea player, but injuries and loan spells mean the 25-year-old has only made two Premier League appearances for the club since signing in 2013.

After disappointing loan spells with AC Milan and Stoke City, van Ginkel has found his true form at PSV Eindhoven this season, where he’s been given the captain’s armband and scored 14 goals in 28 appearances so far.

Van Ginkel has been absolutely crucial to the Dutch side this season, so much so that they’ve just clinched only their second Eredivisie title in 20 years.

With the likes of Danny Drinkwater and Tiémoué Bakayoko struggling for form with the Blues, van Ginkel’s form hasn’t gone unnoticed by Chelsea’s suffering fans:
