The Chelsea fans are intrigued by reports surrounding Chelsea’s proposed summer business. According to the Mirror, the Blues are ploughing on with identifying targets – despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of Antonio Conte.
It’s a strange tactic, given that whoever comes in to replace Conte – if the Italian leaves – may want to build his new team differently, but that doesn’t appear to be bothering the Chelsea brass.
Fortunately, they appear to be targeting top-tier players, and that has gone down well with our resident Blues. Indeed, one player that the Mirror is touting as a key Chelsea target is Jean Michael-Seri.
Currently playing for Nice, our landlord thinks that signing him would fire Chelsea back to the top of the Premier League.
After all, you could argue that the main difference between Chelsea this season and Chelsea last season comes in their midfield.
Last season, the unstoppable duo of Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kantee were unbreakable, and that allowed Chelsea to dominate the middle of the park week-after-week. This season, though, they haven’t been so lucky – with the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Tiemoue Bakayoko both struggling.
Seri, who is rated at £31.5 million by Transfer Markt, would certainly help Chelsea get back to past glories.
He’s a brilliant passer of the ball, and he impresses particularly going forward. Eager to move the ball forward and create attacks, Chelsea’s midfield would be far less negative with him in the team.
Not to mention, he’s also decent defensively, with brilliant possession and concentration often masking the lack of defensive focus within his game.
For Chelsea, then, bringing in Seri makes perfect sense – and he could help to reinvigorate the most disappointing facet of the Blues’ team.
Jose Mourinho eager to sign a Brazilian for Manchester United amid Fred & Willian links
Jose Mourinho has talked up the possibility of Manchester United signing a Brazilian player this summer, though conceded it was unlikely to be Chelsea star Willian.
The Portuguese coach has frequently been linked with a move for the former Shakhtar Donetsk man, who he won the title with during his second spell as manager of Chelsea.
And now, in an interview with ESPN Brasil, Mourinho has reignited that speculation by suggesting his United team will not be complete until it has a Brazilian in it.
Mourinho explained: ‘I think a team without a Brazilian isn’t a team. ‘I think their talent is fantastic and the creativity of the Brazilian player cannot be measured.
‘I worked with Brazilian players in every team I coached, and I enjoyed a lot.’ He then added: ‘Who knows we can have a Brazilian in the squad next year.
‘I don’t believe it will be Willian, because Chelsea won’t make it possible.’
Chelsea sold Nemanja Matic to United last summer, though are unlikely to be so generous this year after a stellar campaign for Willian in which he scored six times and assisted a further seven goals.
One Brazilian that could be a realistic target for United is Fred, with the Shakhtar midfielder reportedly lined up as the perfect partner for Paul Pogba.
