CHELSEA have reportedly stepped up their bid to sign Real Madrid ace Marco Asensio.
The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window.
According to Diario Gol, Chelsea have promised Asensio a wage increase and a regular role in the starting XI if he was to make the move.
It is claimed former team-mate Alvaro Morata is spearheading the Blues’ charge for his signature.
But Chelsea reportedly could face competition from Paris Saint-Germain for Asensio’s signature.
Real Madrid are desperate to sign Neymar from PSG and Diario Gol say the French giants will ask for Asensio in part-exchange if the Brazilian kicks up a fuss.
But the 22-year-old is reportedly not keen on the idea of playing in Ligue 1.
And it is claimed that he has asked Bernabeu bigwig Florentino Perez for a month to make a decision on his future.
Asensio has emerged as one of Real Madrid’s rising stars this season but his progress has stalled in recent months.
He has been scrapping with Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale for a place alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in Real Madrid’s attack.
Asensio is under contract with Real Madrid until 2023 after putting pen to paper on a new deal in September.
Speaking in December, Asensio appeared to suggest he would snub a move away from the Bernabeu if the opportunity arose.
He said: “I am at the best club in the world and I am happy at Real Madrid.”
