Marcos Alonso’s return date confirmed; Emerson Palmieri’s positive message

Chelsea are set to have Marcos Alonso back in contention by the time their Champions League clash against Barcelona comes around, Football London reports.

The Spanish wing-back was absent from his side’s 3-0 win against West Brom on Monday after it was confirmed by Antonio Conte that he had suffered a knock to his ankle during Saturday’s training session.

Many Chelsea fans feared for Alonso’s fitness but it seems the injury is little more than a knock. The Spaniard is likely to sit out of his side’s FA Cup tie with Hull City on Friday but if Football London are to be believed, he is set to come back into the first-team picture for the visit of Ernesto Valverde’s Barcelona side.

Chelsea will be desperate to have as many of their key men fit and available for their game against Barcelona, with the Spanish giants running riot in La Liga this season.

Alonso has been in good form for Chelsea this season and news that his injury is not too serious is sure to come as a big boost.

Meanwhile, Emerson Palmieri gave Chelsea fans positive news ahead of FA Cup debut against Hull:

“Physically, I feel great,” Emerson told the club’s matchday programme for the West Brom game. “The injury is now in the past.

“They were six difficult months for me but what is important is right now and I feel good. I couldn’t feel better so I only have in mind the idea of training with my team and helping us achieve success.

“I came here because this is a great club with a great history. English football is something I have been watching since I was 15 years old. It’s a really beautiful game over here and it’s going to be even more beautiful to play it. I’m coming here with great expectations.

“I learned so much in Italy. Before I went there I used to be a player who just dribbled and shot at goal, but what I saw there was that the tactical game can really help your performance.

“So now I am a better player and I think in some way that is because I managed to combine the two games, Italian and Brazilian. Now I am definitely going to improve here at Chelsea.”
