LUIS ENRIQUE will demand a hefty salary from Chelsea to succeed under pressure Antonio Conte.
Reports have suggested the Italian faces the sack if the Blues lose at Watford tomorrow evening (8pm).
Chelsea are in increasing danger of missing out on Champions League football next season with the top four battle getting tighter.
The manager also has a poor relationship with the hierarchy at Stamford Bridge, having often been left frustrated with transfer business and made public complaints about his thin squad.
Across his three years at Chelsea, Conte is due to earn around £18.5m.
He signed an improved deal last July after a successful first season in charge, winning the Premier League title.
However, that pay increase did not come with an extension, meaning Conte’s deal still expires in 2019.
Starsport understands former Barcelona boss Enrique is being lined up to replace him, wither ex-Chelsea defender Juliano Beletti potentially coming in as director of football.
But Spaniard Enrique, who boasts a strong CV from his time at the Nou Camp, will not come to west London on the cheap.
According to Spanish outlet Don Balon, Enrique will request the same money for an 18-month contract that Conte is due to get over three years.
Enrique’s high price could throw his potential appointment up in the air.
As a result, it will not be straightforward to close a deal should Conte go.
The Chelsea boss, though, is edging ever nearer the exit door.
And it would certainly be intriguing if Enrique arrives at Chelsea before their Champions League last 16 tie against Barcelona, with the first leg at home on February 20.
