CHELSEA news is coming in thick and fast and we are on hand to bring you all the very latest from Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea news LIVE updates: All the latest from Stamford Bridge including Antonio Conte’s uncertain future
Thursday February 8
Luis Enrique decision
06:30: Luis Enrique has reportedly made his decision about joining Chelsea.
Current manager Antonio Conte is under mounting pressure after a run of poor results which leaves them fourth in the table.
To make matters worse, fifth-paced Tottenham are only one point away from kicking them out of the Champions League places.
Chelsea chairman Roman Abramovich, who has a tendency of firing managers under the cosh, is apparently keen to bring former Barcelona boss Enrique to Stamford Bridge.
But the 47-year-old does not want the job before the end of the season, according to the Daily Mail.
The Mail say that he is keen to take over the Blues but he does not want to do so when the players are worn out and suffering with low morale.
Marco Asensio demand
06:00: Real Madrid are reportedly willing to allow Marco Asensio to leave for Chelsea in the summer, but only if they get Eden Hazard in return.
Chelsea are in a dogfight to cling onto their top four position and Monday’s 4-1 defeat to Watford left the door open for Tottenham and Arsenal.
They have tough fixtures against City and Manchester United to come at the end of the month as well.
But the Chelsea hierarchy have already put plans in place to make a huge splash in the summer market in order to close the gap to Pep Guardiola’s side.
It has been suggested in Spain that Roman Abramovich has set his sights on securing a deal for Bernabeu star Asensio.
However, El Gol Digital claim Los Blancos will only consider an offer for the Spain international if they can acquire Hazard.
Antonio Conte dig
05:30: Craig Burley has jovially claimed that Luis Enrique would be an upgrade on Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, so long as he doesn’t complain.
Current Chelsea incumbent Conte has endured a torrid season and he saw his side hammered 4-1 away to Watford on Monday night.
With the Blues’ title defence unravelling spectacularly, Conte appears to be warming up the hotseat for his successor.
ESPN pundit Burley doesn’t necessarily think Enrique would represent an upgrade on Conte.
However, he thinks that by not moaning, he would already be an improvement on his predecessor if he gets the job.
“It is a difficult one to gauge,” he told ESPN.
“He only has to be happy and not complain and then he’s a step up from Antonio Conte!”
Eden Hazard prize
05:00: Eden Hazard pipped Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne to a prestigious award.
Hazard was named the Best Belgian player in a Foreign League for 2017 yesterday.
The playmaker edged out De Bruyne, garnering 326 votes, winning by a mere 11 and was 56 ahead of Napoli’s Dries Mertens.
The City star had topped the second round of voting after Mertens led after the first round of voting.
Discussing his win, Hazard said: “My first prize in Belgium and certainly not my last one.”
