Tiemoue Bakayoko’s Chelsea career hit a new low after the midfielder was sent off in the first half in last week’s 4-1 defeat to Watford.
The French international, who was signed from Monaco for £40 million in the summer, was shown a second yellow card after 30 minutes for a foul on Richarlison.
It was his second booking in the space of five minutes after he hauled down Etienne Capoue before his red card offence.
His performance prior to the sending off was below par, with sloppy passing almost gifting Watford the opportunity to open the scoring on several occasions.
But there was no doubt that the numerical disadvantage played a key role in Chelsea’s eventual defeat.
Bakayoko was signed in the summer as a replacement for Nemanja Matic, who moved to Manchester United for a fee of around £40 million.
The 28-year-old defensive midfielder re-joined manager Jose Mourinho, who brought him back to Chelsea from Benfica in January 2014.
At the time, Blues fans were delighted with Bakayoko’s pedigree and were confident in his ability to fill Matic’s shoes, with the 23-year-old Frenchman a mainstay in Monaco’s title-winning season and impressive showings in the Champions League.
But since making his debut against Tottenham in August, the midfielder has struggled to adapt to the pace of the Premier League, with his performances failing to match those of last season in Ligue 1.
And after his horrow show at Vicarage Road, some Chelsea fans took to social media to question whether Bakayoko was an upgrade on Matic in the first place.
Here are some of the best posts.
Dear Man Utd fans,
We sincerely apologize for saying Bakayoko is better than Matic, we have now seen the light. You got a bargain.
We'll never ever compare to him sorry.

Antonio Conte sold Matic to a rival club and bought Bakayoko. After 26 matches in the Premier League, it’s clearly a BAD decision.

On behalf of all Chelsea fans, I apologize for rating Bakayoko ahead of Matic. We were blind, now we can see. Miracles do truly happen.

Chelsea fans really tried to comfort themselves that Bakayoko is better than Matic in the summer when Matic came to United, when in truth, he's not even better than McTominay.

Sold Costa, replaced him with Morata.
Sold Matic, replaced him with Bakayoko.
The 2 worst transfer decisions of the modern era. And both happened at once. Wow!

If Conte can sell Diego Costa to replace him with Morata, Sell Matic to replace him with Bakayoko then he can sell Hazard and replace him with Theo Walcott.#ConteOut
